The new year is almost upon us and like most business owners, you’re probably evaluating where you can find a few more minutes in your day. You’re considering those places that are time sinks, and 9 times out of ten, your email is reminiscent of the quick sand scene in the old jungle movies. It looks safe enough but hours later you’re armpit deep and there’s no end in sight.

Why folders? If you organize your email into folders instead of keeping all your messages in your inbox you will be able to *see* the empty inbox at the end of your work day. There’s no better way to feel satisfied and accomplished. Not to mention separate folders, clearly marked, make it easier to find emails later on.
Why filters? If you set up a filter that makes all your Facebook notifications end up in a separate folder instead of the main inbox, you won’t be getting distracted in between answering important emails to clients. Same goes for newsletters you’re signed up for and notifications from your blog. You’d be surprised how much you can for your business before you decide it’s time to check those other folders.
Setting up folders and subfolders is easy; setting up filters might differ depending on which software you’re using.
So while you’re lounging around after eating too much of another ‘F’ word, take some time and investigate folders and filters for the email service you use. Before you know it, you’ll have freed up some time and will be singing Fa-la-la-la-la with your family more frequently next year.
