It’s nearly time for my final conference this season. I’m looking forward to attending my first 140 Character Conference being held at the Fillmore in Detroit on Wednesday, October 20th. It’s also the first conference I will be on stage!
The 140 Character Conferences, also known as #140Conf have been held in many cities around the world. Their purpose is “exploring the state of now.” Initially Jeff Pulver began the #140Conf to discuss the effects of Twitter as a platform, it has grown as a way to share what people are doing “right now” in all areas of their lives and business. Social Media and technology is providing for a constant state of change where the opportunities – only limited by imagination – can be moved along faster than ever before in history, simply because of the speed of communication and connection that today’s technology offers.
There are many varied speakers taking the stage on Wednesday beginning with #140Conf founder, Jeff Pulver, Mayor Bing, Christopher Bargerof GM, and followed by a whole slew of speakers who are current friends and soon-to-be-friends.
I am honored to have been invited to join three of those friends on stage:
David Murray @DaveMurr
I’ve admired David Murray’s ability to connect with people for nearly two years now. He is forever jumping in with both feet to help promote Detroit and Social Media whether it’s via his blog, The Way of The Murr, as founder of the Social Media Club Detroit, member of the winning Detroit Chevy SXSW team, or as board member of numerous local conferences. Dave is currently the Director of Social Web Communication for re:group which is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Todd List @TJLIst
I’ve known Todd for a couple of years as well. When I first met him he was an unemployed mechanical engineer and re-evaluating his future. He’s since gone into business for himself as the “Geek who Speaks People.” As his tagline suggests, Todd is a great communicator and uses his skills to explain technology, particularly wordpress, to his clients at Maxim650.
Dan Walker @DanWalker1966
I first met Dan two years ago but hadn’t gotten to know him until I recently hired his firm, River’s End Consulting. Dan is a stand up guy with an honesty that I value immensely. He has authored the book, “The Customer’s Way” and is an advocate for helping companies give their clients exactly what they want to pay for. Dan was also an engineer in a past life who has taken his experience, enhanced and reconstructed it in ways that help other companies grow effectively.
Together with Dave Murray moderating the panel of Dan Walker, Todd List and myself, we’ll be discussing the topic: State of the new entrepreneur and how they are helping to reshape Detroit.
