Before you’ll hear me openly promote any tool, you can be sure I’ve used and tested it first. Paper.li is the BEST tool I’ve tried lately, if not ever. I absolutely LOVE it and here are 5 reasons why:
- Combats Information Overload
When my twitter journey began in 2008, I enjoyed connecting and communicating with people. As my number of followers increased, staying on top of their stories became increasingly difficult. I thought lists might help, but they didn’t. Paper.li takes those lists or a particular #hashtag I’m interested in and consolidates it into a single “news” paper and summarizes the days informative links for me in one place. Check out this sample paper based on the #backchannel hashtag.
- Keeps Me In The Loop
As I’ve already stated, I like to connect with people via social media. Paper.li allows me to go back over the days stories and easily choose who I want to respond to to retweet again if I missed the information the first time it was posted.
If a particular link is popular amongst the people in the stream, group or hashtag, it will appear in the paper, ensuring I don’t miss it. For example, I’ve set up a daily to keep on top of what those in the real estate industry are discussing.
- Better than #FollowFriday
I really appreciate the auto-tweets by paper.li. When the information updates, the paper updates that fact and includes @names of the people who were major contributors for that day. Most of them will take a look at the paper and thank me for including them. It affords me an opportunity to touch several people I may not have taken the time to connect with that day. You can auto-promote your daily on Twitter by going to “settings” choosing the paper you selected and sliding the “promote on Twitter” button to “on.” (Those that don’t want to be mentioned in other people’s dailies, can opt out via the Stop Mentions feature.)
- Paper.li Keeps Improving
I created my first daily back in September 2010 (that’s a lifetime ago in the social media space!) and the developers at SmallRivers continue to improve the experience for us paper.li users. Here are some of the added features I appreciate most:
Archived Papers: I can go all the way back to my first paper via an Archive Calendar on each daily.
Title Edit: When I first set up my lists in Twitter, they were for my personal purposes and I titled them as such. Now I can edit the title of my paper to something more visually appealing than real-estate2.
Customized Update Times: We get to decide when our papers are updated and how often it comes out with the frequency and time settings.
Facebook: I haven’t tried this feature yet, so I’d be curious to have your input if you are using it. Currently paper.li is able to search and aggregate info from public facebook walls. They are looking for ideas on how you might use this feature privately. Personally, I just find the paper.li layout more visually appealing than the facebook wall. I’d consider using it as a way to promote a Business Page.
A feature I would like to see in the future is the ability to join two or more twitter lists into one daily paper. Any features you’d like?
