While many spreadsheet users type in numbers and other data moving down columns, some prefer to move across rows. In some cases, you might want to work from bottom-to-top, or right-to-left. All versions of Excel let you set what happens when you press the Enter key.
In Excel 2003, click Tools, and then Options. At the Options dialog box, click the Edit tab. In the Move selection after Enter drop-down, change how you’d like the Enter key to work.
In Excel 2007, start by clicking the Office Button, and then click Excel Options. Click Advanced from the menu at the left. In the After pressing Enter, move selection drop-down, change how the Enter key works. In Excel 2010, click File, and then click Options. At the Excel Options dialog box, click Advanced from the left side of the screen. In the After pressing Enter, move selection drop-down, make your change to the Enter key.
