I don’t get very excited about new applications, widgets or services because, although many of them are cool ideas, the key to adoption is whether they fit well within my schedule, how much time they save and how useful they are. If it passes MY test, I’ll recommend it to my clients.
There is one big reason I love About.me. It allows me, with a singular link, to direct people to all the craziness that is my life. I love this, especially for my twitter profile.
In other words it’s an online page that lists all my major social media profiles & blog links in ONE PLACE. What sets this page apart from Google’s Profile is that it’s a beautiful layout that is incredibly easy to set up.
I adopted About.me 48 hours ago upon Susie Blackmon’s recommendation. (Be sure to check out Susie’s About.me page!)Like paper.li, I know the value of this platform will further show itself as the company adds features and as I begin to think of new ways to use it.
There’s nothing stopping you from doing the same thing on one of your own pages but I still like the simplicity of the About.me page, and then there’s the stats…
Login for a quick stat snapshot of how many friends/followers/business connections you have and how many people have clicked on your about.me page. The datastacks page provides an overview of your activity on your social media accounts and includes “Your Reach.” Perhaps Klout and About.me ought to work together!
Recommended improvement: I’d like to see better icons or text links for facebook pages.
Eddie Garrett created an About.me badge for his Tumblr page, what a great idea! Go try it out for yourself and let me know what you think and what additional uses you’ve found for the service.
